The Ode To
Commissioned performance work unfolding within the spiraling rotunda of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, where choreography, live music, architecture, and audience occupy a single spatial composition. Rather than a staged concert, The Ode To transforms the museum into an instrument through which movement and sound circulate as one continuous act of collective remembrance.
Ritual Space
Saint Heron’s architectural interventions reveal space as an active participant in performance. Circular gathering grounds, minimalist structures, and carefully choreographed processions frame community itself as artistic material, dissolving conventional boundaries between exhibition, ceremony, and public assembly.
Saint Heron is a multidisciplinary institution devoted to preserving, collecting, and extending the artistic legacies of Black creators. Founded in 2013 by artist Solange Knowles, what began as an online platform has matured into an evolving ecosystem encompassing publishing, exhibitions, archives, performances, design, and public programming.
Its mission extends beyond presentation. Saint Heron approaches artistic practice as cultural stewardship—building permanent collections, preserving living histories, and creating spaces where artists, writers, musicians, architects, designers, and scholars contribute to an expanding continuum of Black creative expression. Through its editorial platform, exhibitions, residency initiatives, and the public-facing Small Matter library and studio, the institution positions preservation itself as an act of creation.
Saint Heron defines itself as both archive and future tense: an institution that understands memory as an active practice rather than a static record.
